Hi there. Remember me? I know, its been a long time. Too long. I apologized over and over to myself and now to my readers (that is- if any of you still exist) but, let me catch you up on the last year:

To take you back, I worked in Esports from September to December of 2018. Then I jumped ship back into the NFL and NBA and was a legal extern for the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans in the early part of 2019. Then, I did something bigger; I graduated law school in May, studied for the NY BAR, and took the UBE Bar for NY in July. While I was taking the Bar I also worked as an independent contractor for the NFLPA and TECH DOJO on an anti-counterfeit initiative (more on all that later). Now you are all caught up on me.

Needless to say, I’ve been amassed in my own journey. I pushed my passion for writing to the back burner, because I thought I was actually living out my dream of being in sports again, but the funny thing is that life has a way of humbling you. And now, I feel as if I am back to square one; with my roots in this blog, and perspective on why I chose this path, but I want to share, and I want to write again; Regardless, this blog isn’t just about me, so let’s dive into some hot topics and milestones from the last couple months:

  • My biggest lesson from the last year is that choosing the sports industry is hard (have I said that before?). It’s a waiting game that never gets easier. It’s passion and purpose. It is wanting to both persevere and give up at the same time. And it is a combination of hard work and dumb luck. But, it can be done.
  • The NFL celebrates its 100th season this this year and Thursday marked the regular season opener. Who is on your fantasy team this season? I am excited to be back in the fantasy game as well.
  • Shout out to the increasing number of women in sport: In 2018, Kelsey Martinez became the Oakland Raiders’ first female assistant coach in the franchise’s history. She is 26 years old and currently the only woman in the NFL working as a strength and conditioning coach, according to nfl.com.
  • The USWNST still showing America who run the world!
  • Serena just won her 100th U.S. Open. We have NO excuses to try to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Have you seen the 2019 ESPN BODY ISSUE? Talking about real body image issues by real athletes. Check it out. Every “body” has a story. espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/27400369/the-body-issue
  • What do we think about the Zeke holdout resulting in him becoming the highest paid RB in the league? Should more athletes hold out, or just the ones that can use their athleticism as leverage?
  • After all the helmet drama, how the HECK did Antonio Brown get released from the Raiders and end up at the Pats?

I hope to provoke some thoughts and dialogue. I am here for more informal and opinionated updates this season, and I am back with some letters behind my name this time. J.D.

Welcome back to sportsintertwined.
